What Is Propel?
There are more options to receive a straighter smile than ever before. Smile Appeal Orthodontics offers the full scope of orthodontic care, which includes utilizing the newest technologies in orthodontic treatment. We are excited to be a Propel Orthodontics provider to help our patients achieve beautiful results in less time.
Propel is an advanced system that uses specific devices in combination with braces or Invisalign® to accelerate orthodontic treatment. We offer in-office and at-home treatment options that deliver high frequency vibrations to your mouth and jaw to help move teeth into their ideal position. This innovative technology works with the patient’s own biology by stimulating the jaw bone and surrounding teeth. With Propel, Dr. Youngker can help patients achieve their desired smile faster than ever before.
How Does Propel Work?
For many patients, orthodontic treatment is a worthwhile investment of their time and health. However, getting a smile that is straight and beautiful can take a long time. New advancements like Propel allow patients to receive the same effective treatment of braces or invisalign but in half the time.
Propel works by using high frequency vibrations to stimulate the production of alveolar bone in the maxilla (upper jaw) and mandible (lower jaw) so the bone that holds teeth in place can better adjust as teeth shift into alignment. The at-home treatment option uses a handheld device that is placed into your mouth for 5 minutes everyday. For the in-office treatment Dr. Youngker will numb the treatment area and place “dental dimples” or small perforations around the teeth that need more stimulation. Both treatments work with braces and aligners which means both patients will finish their treatment in less time with fewer visits to the orthodontist’s office. In addition to accelerated results, Propel offers many additional benefits:
- Move teeth faster
- Reduced treatment time
- Stimulate alveolar bone development
- Less risk of complications from braces, such as white spots
Propel FAQs
Can you eat after Propel?
Yes, you can eat immediately after at-home treatment. After in-office treatment it is recommended that you avoid spicy or irritating substances to ensure you’re comfortable while your “dental dimples” heal.
Does Propel Orthodontics hurt?
Local anesthetic is used to numb the area during in-office treatment. This ensures that you will be comfortable and won’t feel anything during the procedure. At-home treatment is painless and comfortable. You will feel the vibrations but should never feel pain.
How much does Propel Orthodontics cost?
The cost for the in-office and at-home treatments will depend on your insurance coverage. We will provide you with a total cost estimate at your initial consultation appointment and offer financing options for your convenience.
How long do you use Propel Orthodontics?
For Propel to continue to work effectively, in-office treatment sessions should be scheduled every 6–8 months. We will combine Propel sessions with your regular orthodontic appointments. Each session takes about 30 minutes. At-home sessions are only 5 minutes a day.
