The type of braces you will have is often a combination of the best treatment option and personal preference. Smile Appeal Orthodontics has multiple options for braces to ensure you are satisfied throughout your treatment. The most popular options for braces include:
• Traditional metal braces use metal brackets and wires to straighten the teeth. For added fun, the ligatures and ties used with traditional braces come in a variety of colors that can be changed at every adjustment. We also offer clear ligatures and ties.
• Clear braces are less noticeable than traditional metal braces for a discreet and comfortable way to straighten your teeth.
• Clear aligners offer an alternative for those who want straighter teeth but are not comfortable with the look of traditional metal braces. Teeth are straightened using a series of virtually invisible and completely removable aligners. Invisalign® is the clear aligner of choice for many. Your orthodontist will create a set of aligners using 3D images of your teeth and jaws for the most accurate and comfortable fit while you wear them, and the best possible result after your treatment has been completed.
You will first come to our office for a comprehensive exam. Your entire treatment plan will be virtually mapped out during this consultation with your orthodontist. To design a personalized treatment plan, we use the latest 3D imaging technology to make a digital impression of your teeth and jaws. This allows us to plan every adjustment and create the series of customized aligners that you will wear throughout every step of the process and ensure proper positioning.
Invisalign works by using a series of clear aligners that gradually straighten your teeth. In general, each aligner is worn for about two weeks before graduating to the next aligner. Each aligner is specifically customized in the series to ensure the teeth gently shift into their new positions at the right time. A typical Invisalign patient goes through about 18–30 aligners over a period of 9–15 months, but because each patient and treatment plan is unique, the total time and number of aligners for you may be different.
