PLEASE UNDERSTAND THE IMPORTANCE OF ORAL HYGIENE WITH A BONDED LINGUAL RETAINER, ALSO KNOWN AS A PERMANENT RETAINER.
Permanent or bonded retainers are glued to the back (lingual) of two or more teeth. Bonded retainers are the hardest to keep clean of any retainer. You can only wear the retainer if you or your child has excellent oral hygiene under and around the bonded retainer. If hygiene is not excellent, either we or your dentist will need to remove the retainer to prevent gum disease and/or bone loss that can cause you to lose the teeth the retainer is bonded to. You will then need a removable retainer worn daily as directed to prevent any unwanted tooth movement.
YOU MUST
- Thread floss between every tooth that is attached to the retainer, and floss daily along the gum line between teeth.
- Brush thoroughly under and around the teeth and wire to prevent calculus and plaque accumulation.
- See your dentist for regular cleanings and dental recalls.
